Turkmenistan hosted a Private Sector Forum for 32 countries

Outcomes of the Private Sector Forum: new areas of cooperation

Avaza National Tourist Zone hosted the Private Sector Forum within the framework of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries. The event was attended by representatives of business communities, UN structural units and government delegations from 32 landlocked developing countries. This is reported by the State Information Agency of Turkmenistan.

The Forum was organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan together with the UN OHRLLS (Office of the High Representative of the United Nations) Advisory Group. The program included high-level plenary meetings, four thematic sessions and side events.

Turkmenistan as a major transit center in Central Asia presented its experience in logistics infrastructure development and sustainable development. Participants discussed key challenges of landlocked developing countries: geographical limitations, high transit costs and dependence on commodity exports.

The forum paid special attention to the role of information and communication technologies in overcoming geographical challenges and developing the digital economy. Experts emphasized the importance of digitalization of cross-border transactions and the creation of regional e-commerce platforms.

The event resulted in the adoption of a document with recommendations in four main areas: trade and transit systems, growth opportunities, digital development, finance and investment. Participants recommended the active use of trade agreements, including the African Continental Free Trade Area.

During the forum, the Global Business Network for Landlocked Developing Countries, a permanent platform to support businesses and investors, was launched.
