The 90th ICWC jubilee meeting was held, the next one - in Turkmenistan

The 90th anniversary meeting of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination with the participation of representatives of five Central Asian states was held in the Kazakh town of Borovoe on August 14. Arzuw.news reports with reference to Turkmenistan: Golden Age.

On behalf of Turkmenistan, the Chairman of the State Committee for Water Management D. Genjiev took part in the Commission's work in the online format. Also, the heads of specialized ministries of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and an observer from Kyrgyzstan attended the meeting.

The central issue on the agenda was discussion of the use of limits and operation modes of reservoirs for the growing season 2025 in the Amudarya and Syrdarya river basins. The participants also considered the progress of fulfillment of tasks defined at the Summits of the Heads of IFAS Founding States in Turkmenbashi in 2018 and Dushanbe in 2023.

ICWC functions as a structural subdivision of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, chaired by Kazakhstan in 2024-2026. During the period of Turkmenistan's leadership of IFAS from 2017 to 2019, the Executive Committee worked in Ashgabat, where the ASBP-4 Action Program was developed.

Commission meetings are traditionally held twice a year before the beginning of vegetation seasons to establish annual quotas of water withdrawal for agricultural needs. The next 91st ICWC meeting is planned to be held in Turkmenistan.

Within the framework of the event, presentations of international organizations devoted to water security projects in the Aral Sea basin were held.
