Turkmen scientists have created a therapeutic ointment from juniper tree

Properties of therapeutic ointment based on juniper oil have been studied

Young specialists of the Institute of Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan have developed three types of therapeutic ointments based on essential oils of juniper, which have shown high efficiency in treating burns and healing wounds. Arzuw.news reports with reference to Turkmenistan: Golden Age.

Researchers S. Lisovenko and D. Arazov carried out work on isolation of essential oils from different parts of Turkmen juniper and created ointments with the concentration of the active substance 1%, 3% and 5%. The therapeutic properties of the drug were studied jointly with pharmacologists of the Turkmen-Indian enterprise "Türkmenderman "Ajanta Farma Limited".

Created on the basis of essential oil from juniper bark and fruit, the ointment has demonstrated potential for treating burns, including retinal damage, and also helps to accelerate healing and clean wounds. An important advantage of the drug was the absence of irritant action, which distinguishes it from other similar products.

Juniper bark contains 0.73% to 0.87% of essential oil, including components such as α-pinene, limonene, cadinene and cedrol. The essential oil of the plant stimulates the digestive mucosa, has a beneficial effect on the intestines, has a laxative effect and increases the secretion of bronchial glands.

Since the Turkmen juniper is included in the Red Book of Turkmenistan, the project is planned to grow trees in culture without removing raw materials from the natural environment. Formation of industrial plantings on the basis of seedlings from nurseries can become the basis for creation of a new national product and contribute to afforestation of foothill areas.

Historically, juniper was used as a building material and fuel for pottery production because its burning temperature reaches 1000°C without sooting. During the Silk Road period, juniper was a valuable trade commodity.
