Turkmenistan held an event on nuclear technologies in Vienna

The Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the IAEA organized a side event in Vienna on the use of nuclear technology by landlocked developing countries. The event was held on September 17 within the framework of the 69th IAEA General Conference. Arzuw.news reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The event entitled "Awaza Program of Action: Atoms for LLDCs" was dedicated to the results of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, which was held in the Turkmen city of Avaza on August 5-8 this year.

Official delegations of IAEA member states, representatives of the diplomatic corps, as well as experts from the IAEA and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations took part in the work. UN Under-Secretary General Rabab Fatima, UN Under-Secretary-General for Least Developed Countries Affairs, delivered a video address to the participants.

The participants discussed the opportunities of nuclear technologies for the development of countries without maritime borders in the areas of food and water security, health and climate resilience. The event became a platform to find ways to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and implement the Avaza Action Program for 2024-2034.

The Turkmen side presented the national experience of application of atomic technologies in medicine, especially in oncology. The fruitful cooperation of Turkmenistan with the IAEA on the construction of the International Scientific and Clinical Center for Oncology in Ashgabat was separately noted.
