From November 30 to December 1 this year, the Turkmen capital hosted the ESCAP Regional Consultative Meeting on the environmental situation around the Aral Sea basin. This is reported by the Internet edition "Westiabad."
The central topic of the meeting was the formation of the UN Special Program, the establishment of which was proposed in 2012 by the Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. In addition, the Regional Consultative Meeting discussed new approaches to regional cooperation on water resources management, disaster management and combating climate change in the region.
The participants of the meeting discussed the work on formation of the UN Special Program for the Aral Sea basin countries. The document based on the results of the meeting will be presented at the 81st session of ESCAP.
