Today, April 8, 2021, an Iranian delegation led by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in the capital of Turkmenistan on an official visit.
The Iranian foreign minister was received by the president of Turkmenistan. This was followed by the Turkmen-Iranian Inter-Ministerial Political Consultations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The Iranian foreign minister thanked his colleague Rashid Meredov for the highest level of organization of the official visit.
Diplomats considered a number of topical issues of political, diplomatic, economic, trade, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation. Interaction through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was considered separately. The participants of the talks discussed cooperation in the world and regional associations, including the UN, the ECO and the OIC. The sides noted the similarity of state positions on strengthening stability and security in the region and exchanged views on the Afghan issue. Iranian representatives were invited to participate in the International Conference on Peace and Confidence, which is scheduled to take place in Ashgabat on December 12, 2021.
Representatives of Turkmenistan and Iran did not ignore the Caspian issue: they analyzed current legal documents, discussed preparations for the VI Caspian Summit and expressed bilateral interest in developing partnerships in this area.
The meeting resulted in the signing of a Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan-Iran Cooperation Program for 2021-2022.
