Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Participates in C5+1 Ministerial Forum

The C5+1 format included talks between the foreign ministers of Central Asian states, including Turkmenistan, and the United States. Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov emphasized that the constructive dialogue between the participants in the negotiation process promotes political, diplomatic, trade, economic and environmental cooperation. Special emphasis was placed on the need to address climate change and preserve the environment. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan talked about the official initiatives and proposals aimed at strengthening cooperation between the Central Asian states and the USA. The need to introduce the Regional Center on Technologies related to Climate Change was directly noted, and a proposal to consider the possibility of creating scientific and environmental clusters was made. As the initial stage of this project, expediency of organizing a series of educational trainings with participation of experts from the USA was noted.

Rashid Meredov separately drew attention to the Aral Sea problem, noting the need to intensify activities to launch the UN Special Program for the Aral Sea Basin States, which was initiated by the head of Turkmenistan.

The position of the Turkmen side that water problems in the Central Asian region should be solved on the basis of universally recognized international legal norms, taking into account the interests of all Central Asian states and involvement of international organizations was voiced.
