The State Museum of Turkmenistan received an exhibit with a print of an ancient organism

The State Museum of the State Cultural Center of Turkmenistan received a new exhibit, which is a sample of rock with the imprint of an unknown ancient organism. This is reported by the Internet publication "Turkmenistan: Golden Age".

The rock with footprints was discovered by environmental scientist Valery Kuznetsov in Western Kopetdagh, at the foot of the Syunt-Hasardagh Range, in the vicinity of the town of Makhtumkuli. According to the museum staff, marine sediments of the Upper Cretaceous 60-80 million years old are often found in this area.

Dmitry Grigoriev, a candidate of biological sciences, a researcher at the Paleontological Museum of the Russian Academy of Sciences, suggested that the unusual marks on the rock could have been left by primitive organisms, such as sponges, algae and large deep-sea protists.
