Head of Turkmenistan meets with WTO chief

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Director General of the World Trade Organization Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on September 18. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for further development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the largest international trade organization. It was noted that in order to develop foreign economic relations and attract foreign investment, Turkmenistan regularly works to stimulate the national economy.

It was also emphasized during the meeting that a special Government Commission has been established in Turkmenistan to carry out work on the country's accession to the WTO. Thanks to the efforts of the Commission, Turkmenistan was granted the status of an observer in 2020 and the status of a WTO-acceding country last year.
