A spectral library of pasture plants is being created in Turkmenistan

Scientists of the Geoinformation Systems Laboratory of the Technology Center of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan are monitoring pastures around Lake Altyn Asyr and the Caspian Lowland. This is reported by the Internet publication "Turkmenistan: Golden Age".

In order to develop a multi-level monitoring system, the dominant species of rangeland vegetation were analyzed and a tree and shrub inventory methodology was developed using satellite imagery and in-situ surveys.

Based on the results of field work in the territory of Altyn Asyr Lake and the Caspian Lowland, 27 species of dominant species of pasture plants have already been combined into a spectral library.
The information collected, together with a program to analyze remotely sensed land data, are important for sustainable rangeland management.
