New bird species discovered in Turkmen reserve

On the territory of the Koytendag Nature Reserve, Turkmen ecologist Khojamyrat Khojamyradov managed to make a photo of a bird, which has not been seen in the country before. This is reported in the newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan".

Scientists from Badkhyz State Reserve N. Khudaygulyev and Kaplankyr Reserve A. Amanov after discussion came to the conclusion that this bird species is new to the Turkmen avifauna.

Ornithologists were able to determine that the bird in the photo is a white-necked or waterthrush, which belongs to the Asian passerine species of the flycatcher family. The bird inhabits the territories of Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, China and Myanmar and is listed in the Red Book.

The White-backed Bluethroat was found in the Daray-Dere Canyon. Scientists expressed their hope to see it again next season to confirm the change in its range.
