Expert A. Ilyasov: Turkmenistan implements programs to combat desertification

Expert Allaberdy Ilyasov spoke about the successful implementation of a number of national programs and projects to combat desertification. This is reported by the Internet edition Centralasia.news.

Turkmenistan, within the framework of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, has developed a National Action Plan and joined the Organization's three global conventions on combating desertification, protecting the ozone layer and combating climate change.

The country's environmental policy includes rational use of resources and introduction of modern technologies to reduce the negative impact on nature. Expert A. Ilyasov emphasized that of particular importance in this context is the implementation of the project of modern social and industrial cluster near the lake "Altyn-Asyr".

Also, the Doctor of Technical Sciences noted that the Karakum desert, which occupies vast areas, allows successful livestock breeding. The factor restraining the development of the desert in the agricultural direction is the lack of water for irrigation of agricultural crops. And in this regard, the study of fresh groundwater deposits located in the Karakum desert plays a great role.
