Medics of Turkmenistan together with WHO experts conducted sequencing of influenza virus

Experts from the WHO European Office arrived in Ashgabat as part of a special technical advisory mission, during which they conducted research on the influenza A virus together with Turkmenistan's medical workers. This was reported by the Internet publication "Turkmenistan: Golden Age".

Full genome sequencing of ten samples of influenza A viruses was performed at the Virology Reference Laboratory. The data obtained from the joint work were uploaded to the GISAID system, which provided free access to the sequencing results.

The purpose of the WHO experts' mission was to increase the capacity of Turkmen medical scientists in the field of influenza virus sequencing. The experts' visit to Turkmenistan was organized within the framework of the plan to prepare for effective fight against the acute viral disease.
