Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov led a national delegation to the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization, which was held today in the city of Khankendi under the motto "ECO's New Vision for a Sustainable and Climate Resilient Future".
Turkmenistan has put forward a number of key initiatives to develop regional cooperation until 2035. Among the priority areas, Minister Meredov emphasized the creation of logistics routes, diversification of energy supplies and development of "green" energy.
The Turkmen side proposed to create a mechanism for coordination of energy policy of the ECO Member States to ensure energy security of the region. Further integration of transport and logistics systems for the development of transport and transit potential was also recommended.
Minister Meredov emphasized the importance of adopting a new program document that will define the goals of economic cooperation of the ECO member states for the coming decade. Among other priorities are the elimination of trade barriers, attraction of investments and development of modern technologies.
The Summit participants noted the need to intensify direct contacts between the business community through the Chambers of Commerce and Industry, as well as to strengthen cultural and humanitarian ties for further integration of the ECO region.
At the end of the meeting, the participants stated that the results of the summit will contribute to the deepening of mutually beneficial cooperation between the member states of the organization.
