The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan today held a briefing on the international humanitarian activities of the republic. The event gathered heads of the Foreign Ministry, heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of international organizations and media accredited in Ashgabat.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov presented an overview of the humanitarian activities of the country within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust. He emphasized that the development of international humanitarian cooperation is a priority direction of the foreign policy initiated by the National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and implemented by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
According to the ministry, Turkmenistan participates in 54 international organizations and humanitarian programs, including documents on international humanitarian law. Special attention was paid to the work of the humanitarian corridor created by the republic for evacuation from the Middle East region.
According to the Foreign Minister, the corridor's services were used by 4,678 people - citizens of 52 countries. This initiative was highly appreciated by the international community.
The briefing was addressed by ambassadors and representatives of ten states: Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Malaysia, Russia, Kazakhstan, India, USA, China, Iran and UAE. The UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko, EU Ambassador Beata Peksa and Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Kakhi Imnadze also took the floor.
All participants of the event expressed gratitude to the leadership of Turkmenistan for assistance in the evacuation of foreign citizens during the escalation in the Middle East and highly appreciated the humanitarian approach of the republic in international relations.
