Today, on February 18, the scientific conference "Policy of neutrality and culture of peace" was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on the occasion of the Day of Diplomatic Corps in Turkmenistan. Before the conference opened, guests visited an exhibition of achievements of foreign diplomatic missions and representative offices of international organizations in Turkmenistan.
The conference began with a speech by R.O. Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
After greeting all the conference participants, the minister read out President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov's address to the conference participants:
"I congratulate you on the beginning of the scientific and practical conference "Policy of Neutrality and Culture of Peace," as well as on the Day of Diplomatic Workers of Turkmenistan.
We devote a great deal of attention to studying the successfully implemented policy of neutrality in the system of international relations and scientific research work in this direction. I believe that this representative forum will provide ample opportunities for an exchange of opinions on the role of diplomacy in implementation of peacekeeping foreign policy in modern conditions, for analysis and summarizing the results of our independent country's journey as a neutral country for a quarter of a century, for evaluation of its current development.
Then the floor was given to representatives of international public organizations in Turkmenistan, as well as the Vice-Rector of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a lecturer of the International University for Humanities and Development.
In their speeches, the conference participants emphasized that establishing friendly relations with all countries of the world and close cooperation with major authoritative international organizations, first and foremost with the UN, are the main directions of Turkmenistan's foreign policy.
The tasks of the modern diplomatic service of Turkmenistan are the promotion of the country to the world markets of energy resources (oil and gas supplies, modernization of production in the energy sector), the establishment of cooperation in the field of high technology, protection of the rights and interests of organizations and citizens of the country abroad.
The event concluded with an MFA diploma award ceremony for distinguished young diplomats and graduate students of the MFA Institute of International Relations.
