Kazakh parliament ratifies agreement with Turkmenistan on cooperation in emergency situations

The Senate (upper house) of the Kazakh parliament today ratified an intergovernmental agreement with Turkmenistan on cooperation in the field of civil defense, prevention and liquidation of emergency situations, the Kazakh media reported.

The agreement defines the interaction of countries in the field of civil defense, prevention and elimination of emergencies, as well as training specialists to provide voluntary and mutual assistance in the event of a disaster or other disaster.

In accordance with the document, assistance is provided on the basis of a written request, in which the requested party provides information about the time, place, nature and extent of the emergency and indicates the type and amount of assistance needed.

Assistance in emergency situations is provided by sending special teams, appropriate equipment, and supply materials.

The authorized bodies of the two countries in providing urgent assistance and rapid redeployment of forces are developing and agreeing on additional instructions on the possibility of using aircraft and a mechanism for interaction between representatives of government agencies to facilitate the crossing of borders as a matter of priority.

The law has been sent to the president of Kazakhstan for signature.
Recall that this agreement was signed in Ashgabat in October 2021 following a state visit by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The president of Turkmenistan ratified the agreement in February of this year.
