On August 1, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a decree on holding the World Kurash Championship at the Olympic Sports Complex in Ashgabat. This is reported on the official website of Khalk Maslakhaty. The decree is aimed at strengthening friendship between peoples, development of physical culture and sports, promotion of a healthy lifestyle, attracting the younger generation to sports.
The decree authorizes the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sport together with the International Kurash Association to organize the event. The Committee is also tasked to develop and approve the regulations of the championship in coordination with the International Kurash Association.
Kurash is a traditional Turkmen wrestling sport dating back many centuries. Holding the World Kurash Championship will give an opportunity to demonstrate this historical sporting tradition to an international audience. It will also allow Turkmenistan to raise its prestige as an organizer of major sporting events.
According to the Presidential Decree, the dates of the World Kurash Championship in Ashgabat are set for November 23-28, 2023. This Resolution demonstrates Turkmenistan's desire to promote sports diplomacy and cultural exchange through sports competitions. The World Kurash Championship will bring together the best athletes from all over the world in Ashgabat.
