Turkmenistan held a traditional mass bicycle ride led by Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov. The event was dedicated to the World Health Day. The head of state rode ahead of the column of cyclists in the capital.
Deputy Prime Ministers, heads of ministries and the Mejlis, employees of law enforcement agencies and the administration of Ashgabat, social activists, university professors and students, and representatives of the mass media also took part in the bike rally.
The cyclists followed the path from the Path of Health to the city center, and their route stretched along Bitarap Turkmenistan and Archabil avenues. Along the way, the cyclists were cheered on by creative groups. When the convoy reached the cultural and entertainment center Älem, children from Döwletliler köşgi (Palace of Orphans) joined it. The President of Turkmenistan presented them with bicycles for the event.
The final destination of the bike ride was the main square of Ashgabat. Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov was the first to enter the square. The President of Turkmenistan spoke at the gostribun, addressing the audience with a speech about the importance of these actions. The Turkmen leader noted that they unite the society and inspire fellow citizens to new achievements.
Such bike rallies have already become an annual tradition in Turkmenistan. This year the capital of Turkmenistan will host not only World Cycling Track Championshipsbut will also be the site of the stage Davis Cup International Tennis Tournament.
