UNDP organized a round table on psychosocial support in Ashgabat

On September 18-19 in Ashgabat, UNDP held a two-day roundtable on "Psychosocial Support to Vulnerable Youth and Women at the Community Level". The event was held within the framework of the National Capacity Building Initiative on Psychosocial Support, implemented jointly with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population of Turkmenistan and funded by the UNDP-DPPA Conflict Prevention Program. This is reported on the official website UNDP in Turkmenistan.

The roundtable brought together representatives from government ministries, academia, mental health professionals and civil society organizations to discuss local needs and national priorities for community-based psychosocial support for vulnerable young people and women. Participants also discussed the inclusion of a training course on mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) in the professional development of professionals such as social workers and teachers.

The overall initiative aims to develop capacity to integrate MHPSS into conflict prevention and social cohesion through multi-sectoral collaboration between government, civil society and academia. Based on the consultations, MHPSS training modules will be developed and presented to national partners after the first trainings scheduled for November 6-10, 2023.
