UNICEF held lectures on social work at universities in Turkmenistan

UNICEF together with the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan organized a series of educational lectures on higher education and research in the field of social work, which took place from 1 to 10 September in the leading educational institutions of the country. Arzuw.news reports with reference to the UNICEF office in Turkmenistan.

The events took place at the Turkmen State University named after Makhtumkuli and the Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute named after Seidi. The lectures were conducted by UNICEF international expert, Prof. Salome Namicheishvili.

The program was addressed to students, teachers and practitioners in order to strengthen academic knowledge and develop professional skills in the field of social work. During the course, the participants studied the theoretical foundations of social work, the development and multifaceted nature of disability models, social research methodology and reflexive methods in the educational process.

UNICEF is working in partnership with two higher education institutions to modernize undergraduate social work curricula. Priority is given to the introduction of a competency-based approach in teaching and the application of scientific methods in research projects.

This initiative aims to create a new generation of highly qualified social work professionals.
