One step away from gold and the world record he stopped and became the silver medalist of the World Championships in the weight category up to 81 kg weightlifter Redzhepbai Redzhepov from Turkmenistan.
The 2022 World Championships in Bogota, Colombia, is the main post-Olympic season and a qualifier for the Olympic Games in Paris. There, the 30-year-old Rejepbai achieved a career-best total of 366 kg in the biathlon.
Five years ago, Rejepov already became a silver medalist of the world championship, only in the weight under 77 kg. He also has two medals at the Asian Championships (silver and bronze), as well as participation at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. He could have claimed a medal there, but the referees disqualified his third attempt at the jerk (198 kg). This time Rejepov repeated his result in Tokyo (164 kg).
In the jerk Rejepbai took first 195 kg, then he conquered also 202 kg. This guaranteed him a small gold medal and silver in the biathlon. But he had to break the world record (209 kg) to beat Li Dain of China and win the gold. Rejepov decided to storm 210 kg, took the bar to his chest, pushed it, but still couldn't hold it. As a result, he took second place and brought the first medal for the national team of Turkmenistan.
