"Turkmengaz has signed a contract with QazaqGaz to export Turkmen gas.
This was announced today by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev at a media briefing after talks with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdymukhamedov, the press service of the Akorda.
Tokayev thanked Berdymukhamedov for his personal support in promoting the project. He also expressed his country's interest in concluding a long-term agreement and increasing gas imports to 1.5 billion cubic meters per year.
"Kazakhstan is ready to participate in the implementation of major energy initiatives of Turkmenistan, to exchange experiences, to develop mutually beneficial projects in the field of gas processing and gas chemistry. Taking into account the interest of both parties, the Government has been instructed to work on these areas as well," added Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
A total of 14 documents were signed as a result of the visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Kazakhstan. These include a joint statement and a comprehensive program on bilateral cooperation for 2022-2024.
The heads of state also discussed issues of trade and economic cooperation. Tokayev and Berdymukhamedov agreed to increase the volume of mutual trade to $ 1 billion. The parties addressed a number of topical issues of the bilateral agenda, as well as identified the main directions of further interaction between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
In addition, the prospects of Kazakh wheat exports to the Turkmen market and the construction of a grain terminal on the Turkmen-Afghan border were discussed.
