Turkmenistan has prepared a Concept of chairmanship in the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), Rashid Meredov, deputy prime minister and head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, told the leader of the Turkmen nation during a government meeting. The 14th meeting of the Organization will be held on March 4, 2021 via a live video link.
Turkmenistan will take over the presidency of the ECO from friendly Turkey in 2021. Last week, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan informed his Turkmen counterpart about it in writing. And for the mission to be successful, the government has developed a draft Concept, which includes a number of important areas.
Among them are intensification of activities of ECO member states in the investment sector, formation of new free economic zones and corridors, including trade, transport, energy and logistics. It is planned to pay special attention to ensuring stable transportation of goods in case of emergencies, and to build up partnerships in the field of stable energy.
As the main tasks were also named full support and promotion of mutual cooperation between the ECO member states in cultural and humanitarian direction, increasing cooperation in agro-industrial sphere in order to ensure food security, intensification of scientific research aimed at combating coronavirus infection.
Among the priority areas of partnership within the ECO framework, the Concept also outlines the implementation of activities aimed at promoting the strengthening of the socio-economic situation in Afghanistan.
Turkmenistan intends to carry out relevant activities in order to solve the set tasks. Thus, in March 2021 it is proposed to organize a visit to the country by the ECO Secretary General, during which the issue of holding the 15th meeting of the Organization in the Turkmen capital will also be considered, which should coincide with the ECO Day.
At the end of the report, the Turkmen leader praised the productive nature of cooperation with ECO, which Turkmenistan has been a member of since 1992.
