Turkmenistan and UNODC discuss cooperation in customs control

A meeting was held between the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and the UNODC representation office

Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan held a meeting with Oliver Stolpe, Regional Representative of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime for Central Asia. The central topic of discussion was the Passenger and Cargo Control Program, which is being implemented with the support of UNODC. The participants of the meeting considered priority areas of cooperation within the framework of this initiative.

Special attention was paid to the activities of port control groups functioning at the customs posts of Turkmenbashi, Ashgabat and Farap. The parties also discussed plans to create a new port control group to strengthen customs supervision.

During the talks, the sides exchanged views on modernizing the work of customs authorities, strengthening regional security and countering transnational organized crime.

A separate item on the agenda was the issue of obtaining an official status for the Regional Training Center of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan. The participants of the meeting considered the possibilities of joint activities in connection with the awarding of the new status to the training center.

Following the talks, the sides confirmed their mutual readiness to further strengthen cooperation in the field of ensuring security and sustainable development of the region.
