Turkmenistan Participates in Discussions on Cooperation in the Lazurite Corridor

Representatives Turkmenistan participated in a tripartite online meeting to discuss the prospects for further Cooperation along the Lapis Lazuli Corridor. The discussion was also attended by representatives of the Azerbaijan and Afghanistan. The main purpose of the interdepartmental group meeting is to consideration of ways of cooperation in the areas of transport and communications.

The Turkmen side was represented by Deputy Prime Minister Bairamgeldy Ovezov, responsible for such areas as transport and communications. On the Azerbaijani side, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic Shahin Abdulla oglu Mustafayev participated in the discussion, and the Afghan side delegated Acting Chairman of the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic Ajmal Ahmadi.

The participants of the online meeting noted interaction efficiency in this format, as well as summarized the results of cooperation over the past year. The parties exchanged views on joint work in the current year.

The result of the negotiations was the signing of a road map for cooperation in the Lapis Lazuli corridor.

Lapis Lazuli Corridor - Agreement on transit and cooperation in the field of transport, entered into in November 2017 between Turkmenistan, Georgia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Afghanistan. The document was signed in the framework of RECCA VII - 7th Regional Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan. One of the key objectives of the partnership in this format is to strengthen the integration of the region into global economic processes.
