Turkmenistan continues to fight global climate change

The next stage in Turkmenistan's fight against climate change was a two-day training held at the Yildiz Hotel in Ashgabat. The working meeting on the Coordination Mechanism was another step in the practical implementation of the project, aimed at strengthening the country's capacity and supporting the creation of national programs and a set of regional activities aimed at combating climate change.

Participants in the two-day training included officials from the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, as well as the State Committees on Statistics and Water Resources. The participants were also joined by delegates from both chambers of the National Parliament of Turkmenistan, the Academy of Sciences, and the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

This project, implemented under the relevant program, aims to ensure Turkmenistan's readiness for effective cooperation on an ongoing basis with the Green Climate Fund (GCF), in accordance with established norms and procedures. It is a prerequisite for the implementation of the GCF funding.

The project aims to support Turkmenistan in climate resilience in line with the country's international commitments towards combating climate change, as well as to achieve national development objectives by effectively increasing access, management and control of climate finance through the GCF.

Turkmenistan is an active participant in the implementation of significant partnership projects and programs, the task of which is to solve acute contemporary problems, among which is climate change.

During the meeting, representatives of the GCF and the Central Asian Regional Environmental Center (CAREC) informed the training participants about the key aspects of the project to establish productive cooperation with the Fund, strengthen the capacity of stakeholders and form the basic tools for leadership and coordination of steps in this direction and financial support. The activities of the Coordination Mechanism will be focused on these tasks. It is also planned to develop an appropriate Country Program and confirm the Settlement Procedures.
