Delegates from the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and "Türkmendeňizderýaýollary" participated in an international webinar on the safety of waterborne cargo transportation. The two-week event was held in the framework of the program "Maritime Safety, Security and Environmental Protection in the Black Sea and Caspian Sea Region" (BCSEA). It is implemented by the European Maritime Safety Agency and financially supported by the EU.
In addition to Turkmenistan, webinar participants included representatives from Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova, Iran, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Turkey. In the course of the webinar, the national experts in the field of maritime communications learned about international practices to ensure the safety of both cargo ships and port facilities. In addition, the participants of the event were provided with methodological assistance in bringing their regulatory and legal framework in accordance with the European Union legislation.
Participants of the online forum noted that Turkmenistan occupies the optimal geographical location, which allows it to play the role of a significant stabilizing and strengthening transit-transport hub of the Eurasian continent. It was also emphasized that the head of Turkmenistan put forward a number of initiatives that would allow the country to realize its great potential in this segment to the maximum extent. In this direction, along with other Caspian Sea countries, thematic programs are being developed and put into practice.
The potential of the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port equipped with innovative automated systems and technologies was also noted. Its modern infrastructure makes it possible to meet the needs of both domestic and foreign cargo carriers. During the webinar it was stressed that Turkmenistan would continue to develop international cooperation in the sphere of maritime transport.
