Turkmenistan Increased Electricity Exports to Uzbekistan

Turkmenistan has increased the volume of electricity exports to Uzbekistan. To be more precise, the export of Turkmen electricity to Uzbekistan increased by 17% and reached 20-21 million kilowatt-hours per day. This is reported by the Uzbek media.

Growing domestic demand is cited as the reason for Uzbekistan's increased imports of electricity. In this regard, daily electricity imports to the country from Turkmenistan increased by 3 million kWh, from 17-18 million kWh to 20-21 million kWh.

According to calculations by the Uzbek Ministry of Energy, the country consumes 18-20 million kWh of electricity during the day and at night during cold winter days. Most of the country's electricity needs are met by imports from Turkmenistan. In addition, Uzbekistan exports 5-6 million kWh of electricity to Afghanistan to compensate for some of its foreign exchange expenses.
