At the 88th World Weightlifting Championship held in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Turkmen athlete, Master of Sports Gaigysyz Torayev won a bronze medal in the 81 kg weight category in the jerk. This is reported by the Internet publication "Turkmenistan: Golden Age".
Twenty-eight athletes from 26 countries competed for medals in this weight category. Out of six attempts, the Turkmen weightlifter realized all six, taking 11th place in snatch and 3rd in jerk.
Gaigysyz Torayev took the sixth place in the sum of the two-round competition. The third place was awarded to an athlete from Uzbekistan, the second place - from Indonesia, and the first place was taken by an Italian weightlifter.
Gaigysyz Toraev started weightlifting in Sakarchagin district under the guidance of coach Shatlyk Durdyklychev. To date, the athlete is studying under the head coach of the Turkmen national team Mansur Redjepov, improving his skills.
