Turkmenistan's hydroelectric power plant celebrates its 110th anniversary

The unique Hindu Kush hydroelectric power plant on the Murghab River is 110 years old. The Turkmen HPP is a real monument of technical thought, which functions on the equipment installed more than a century ago. This is reported in the national daily newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan".

Construction of the structure began in 1909 in the town of Bayramali and already in 1913 the HPP was put into operation. The construction and commissioning was carried out by the Austrian firm Tami & Deichmann. The Hindu Kush hydropower plant was the first of its kind in Central Asia at that time.

Since its construction, the station has had a water supply structure of the supply closed canal, a water supply basin, turbine and generator rooms, a diversion and flushing canal. All components are still in excellent technical condition. Only in 1980 scheduled preventive maintenance works were carried out.

Today, the Hindu Kush hydroelectric power plant is one of the 12 largest power plants operating on the territory of Turkmenistan.
