Scientists in Turkmenistan are equipped to determine methods of strengthening moving sands

Scientists in Turkmenistan were supplied with equipment that allows them to identify methods that maximize the effectiveness of fixing moving sands. The photovoltaic unit and a powerful electric generator were handed over to the scientists of the Karrukul stationary operating at the National Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Environment Protection of Turkmenistan. Scientists carry out large-scale scientific and experimental research and monitor the phenomena of nature.

This equipment will be used to care for and monitor the development and adaptation of many seedlings of a variety of desert vegetation species. It will also be used to carry out a set of measures aimed at identifying methods that maximize the effectiveness of fixing moving sands. In particular and with the use of phytomelioration.

Scientists intend to develop technologies to increase the productivity of desert pastures. This includes artificial irrigation. With the help of transferred equipment, the station staff will be able to lift fresh water for irrigation from deeper underground aquifers.

The equipment that meets all modern requirements will also significantly contribute to the implementation of a whole list of other surveys in order to obtain the maximum amount of information about the peculiarities of deserts. The efficiency of all facilities of the Karrykul station, thanks to the established autonomous power supply, will also be improved.

The equipment was supplied under the FAO/GEF CACILM-2 Project on Integrated Natural Resource Management in Agricultural Landscapes with High Risk of Salinity and Drought in the Central Asian Region.
