Ashgabat, July 14 - Arzuw.news. A two-week training course "Caspian Sea - Sustainable Development and Management", which united specialists from all five Caspian littoral states, has started in the capital of Turkmenistan. This is reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The educational program was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oil and Gas Complex and Caspian Sea Institute of Turkmenistan together with the International Institute of Oceans.
The course is attended by ecologists, diplomats, border guards, oilmen, hydrometeorologists, hydrographers, lawyers, economists, transportation specialists and representatives of the fishing industry from Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Russia.
The opening ceremony was addressed by Antonella Vassallo, Managing Director of the International Ocean Institute, Dmitry Shlapachenko, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, and Parvin Farshchi, Course Director. IOI Honorary President Avni Behnam addressed the participants via video link.
The participants noted the positive dynamics of the Caspian negotiation process and emphasized Turkmenistan's contribution to the sustainable development of the region.
The course program includes an intensive module on marine spatial planning. For the first time, a special workshop on the Agreement on Marine Biodiversity beyond Areas of National Jurisdiction is planned as part of the educational initiative.
