The shoreline of the Shavat Canal in Turkmenistan's Dashoguz velayat was strengthened to prevent soil salinization in the region. This measure was undertaken by a USAID regional project together with the State Committee of Water Resources of Turkmenistan.
Tree planting to create coastal forest strips was carried out along the main waterway of Dashoguz velayat on the territory of 22 hectares. More than 9 thousand trees resistant to cool weather and saline soils were planted.
This measure will reduce wind speeds, soil and air temperatures, and increase humidity. Shorelines are also designed to prevent soil erosion and reduce the water table. They are beneficial to the environment and the soil.
