Monument to Kazakh poet unveiled in Turkmenistan

The opening ceremony of the monument to the great Kazakh poet and thinker Abai Kunanbaev was held today in Ashgabat with the participation of the President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev and the National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The action was attended by members of the government, representatives of ministries and agencies, honorable elders and journalists. The performance of a song in Turkmen and Kazakh languages during the ceremony emphasized the unity of cultures of the two brotherly peoples.

Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan in his speech announced the decision of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to award the President of Kazakhstan with the jubilee medal of Turkmenistan Magtymguly Pyragynyň 300 ýyllygyna. At the end of the ceremony, the participants laid flowers at the monument of Abai Kunanbayev.
