The All-Russian Museum of Decorative Arts in Moscow opened an exhibition of carpets "Carpet of Stories", which presents carpets created in 1930-1980s of the last century in Russia, the Caucasus and Central Asia. This is reported by the online edition "Turkmenistan: The Golden Age."
One of the most interesting exhibits of the exhibition was a rare Turkmen carpet "Horse Run" woven by the craftswomen of the Ashgabat Carpet Factory in 1937. The plot image on the carpet is dedicated to the race of Akhalteke horses on the Ashgabat-Moscow route in 1935.
The legendary 4,300-kilometer horse ride took 84 days. 30 riders crossed the Karakum Desert, the Ustyurt Plateau, Kazakh steppes and Russian forest-steppes. Two years later the second carpet was woven according to sketches and schemes, which is still kept in Ashgabat. The exhibition in the Moscow museum will last until October 13.
