Turkmen expert Vadim Shagiakhmedov spoke about the development of water use system

On the eve of Turkmenistan's national holiday "A drop of water is a grain of gold", expert Vadim Shagiakhmedov told the editors of Centralasia.news portal about the culture of water use and modern development of irrigation.

The expert noted that the ancestors of the modern inhabitants of Turkmenistan have developed the culture of agriculture since ancient times. Due to the hot climate and the fact that most of the country's territory is desert, farming was impossible without artificial irrigation systems. The remains of ancient dams, water intakes, dams and other similar structures are still found in the territory of Akhal, Lebap and Mary provinces of the country.

According to Shagiakhmedov, at present the people of Turkmenistan continue good traditions of careful attitude to water. Water reservoirs are being built. In 2022, a complex of mudflow diversion structures will be put into operation. The project was implemented in partnership between Russian and Turkmen design institutes. The launch of these facilities allows to expand pastures and develop livestock breeding in the Karakum desert.
