The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. This was reported by the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.
The talks were initiated by the Azerbaijani side. The interlocutors noted with satisfaction the high level of bilateral relations between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.
President Aliyev warmly referred to the recent visit of Hero-Arkadag to Azerbaijan, characterizing it as an important event in the history of bilateral relations. Agreements and documents signed during the Azerbaijani leader's visit to the US were also discussed during the talk. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated the interlocutor on the achievement of these historic agreements.
President Aliyev, in turn, congratulated on successful completion of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries held in Avaza. Special attention was paid to the trilateral meeting between Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan in Avaza held on the initiative of Hero-Arkadag.
The parties noted great opportunities for expanding cooperation between the three countries in the development of transport and communication corridors. They also discussed the meeting of Central Asian heads of state and the upcoming Consultative Meeting in Tashkent this fall.
Hero-Arkadag put forward an initiative for Azerbaijan to join the format of cooperation of Central Asian countries. Following the talks, the National Leader of the Turkmen people invited President Aliyev to visit Turkmenistan at any convenient time.
