Turkmenistan celebrated Caspian Sea Day

To the participants of the scientific-practical conference "Caspian Sea - the Sea of Friendship and Peace"

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated the participants of the conference on the Caspian Sea Day, which is celebrated on August 12 in honor of the entry into force of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea. This is reported by the publication Turkmenistan: Golden Age.

Turkmenistan actively promotes constructive initiatives to strengthen trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties in the Caspian region, receiving support from the littoral states. The country has become a venue for key regional events.

The capital of Turkmenistan hosted the first Caspian Summit, which laid the foundation for comprehensive partnership and the solution of many regional problems. In 2022, Ashgabat hosted the sixth Caspian Summit with new proposals for the development of cooperation.

The Avaza National Tourist Zone has become a center of international diplomacy in the region. In 2012, the first Caspian Environmental Forum was held here with the participation of relevant ministries of the region's countries and international organizations. In August 2019, the zone hosted the first Caspian Economic Forum aimed at expanding trade relations between the coastal states.

At the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in September 2023, Turkmenistan put forward a proposal to establish a "Caspian Environment Initiative" to coordinate efforts to protect the Caspian Sea environment.

The Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, organized on the initiative of Turkmenistan, was recently held in Avaza. The event takes place in the International Year of Peace and Confidence, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality status.
