Celebrations dedicated to the Caspian Sea Day, which took place on August 11-12, have been completed in the National Tourist Zone "Avaza". This is reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The central event was the scientific and practical conference "Caspian Sea - Sea of Friendship and Peace" that opened on August 12 under the leadership of Myrat Atadjanov, Director of the Caspian Sea Institute. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent a welcoming message to the participants of the event.
The conference was attended by representatives of Turkmenistan, ambassadors of the Caspian littoral states, heads of international organizations of the UN, OSCE and European Union, as well as international experts.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov emphasized Turkmenistan's active position in addressing environmental issues in the Caspian region. Special attention was paid to the Caspian Environment Initiative, which President Berdimuhamedov presented at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
The participants discussed key areas of cooperation in the field of hydrometeorology, protection of Caspian Sea biodiversity and compliance with environmental standards. At the end of the conference, an Address to the President of Turkmenistan was adopted, in which the participants called for continuing joint efforts to develop international partnership for sustainable development and conservation of the Caspian marine ecosystem.
