IMO approved Turkmenistan's accession to the Bunker Convention

The International Maritime Organization IMO has decided to join Turkmenistan to the Bunker Convention "Bunker-2001". This is reported by the Internet publication "Portnews".

The Bunker Convention provides for civil liability for damage from bunker fuel pollution. The Convention is a unified international standard for liability and compensation of persons who have suffered damage due to fuel pollution. Currently, more than one hundred countries of the world are parties to the Convention.

The specialized agencies of Turkmenistan have been working on joining the Bunker Convention within the framework of bunkering services for ships. According to the Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, the Convention will enter into force for Turkmenistan on April 23, 2024.
