International training on protection of grain crops opened in Turkmenistan

Training on pest protection of grain crops started in Ashgabat within the framework of a two-year project of the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan and UN FAO. The project, which will be implemented until 2027, includes a series of seminars on phytosanitary control, new chemicals and technologies for pest and weed control. It is planned to create an experimental site on the territory of the Research Institute of Grain Growing. It will demonstrate traditional and innovative methods of increasing yields in Turkmenistan, as well as conduct field training for agronomists, representatives of associations and farmers.

The report was delivered by Artur Shamilov, representative of FAO Regional Office in Budapest. He noted that the organization supports several science-based agro-ecological projects in the country. Also, the participants were introduced to the Russian experience in the field of plant protection by the experts of FGBU "Russian Agricultural Center": Deputy Director Andrey Zhivykh and Head of Plant Protection Department of Krasnodar branch Lyubov Gridyakina. The seminar paid special attention to the problem of locusts, which caused a lively discussion.

Turkmen specialists, in turn, shared their national experience, telling about the work of quarantine services and scientific units to combat pest breeding centers.
