Meeting of CIS Red Cross leaders starts in Ashgabat

A two-day International Meeting of the Heads of the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies of the CIS countries in hybrid format started today at the Archabil Hotel in Ashgabat. Arzuw.news reports with reference to Turkmenistan: Golden Age.

The event was opened by Maral Achilova, Chairman of the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan. The meeting is taking place within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust.

The forum is attended by representatives of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as heads of national societies of Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia and Russia. In addition, the Deputy Head of the National Red Crescent Committee of Qatar participates in the meeting.

Representatives of the Red Crescent societies of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan joined the event online.

The main topics of discussion will be mechanisms for emergency response, building resilience to disasters, development of humanitarian diplomacy and international humanitarian law. Special attention will be paid to the development of humanitarian action based on fundamental principles and the institutional development of National Societies.

Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality provides a unique platform for constructive discussions on complex issues, including challenges in European regions. The topics under consideration are in line with the priorities of the resolutions of the 34th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent and the 2024 Council of Delegates.
