Ashgabat to hold mourning events in connection with the anniversary of the 1948 earthquake

Today, November 6, the capital and provinces of Turkmenistan will host mourning and commemorative events dedicated to the anniversary of the 1948 earthquake. This is reported by the Internet edition "CentralAsia.news".

A ceremony of laying flowers at the "People's Memory" memorial complex will be held, including on behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. State flags will be lowered. On this day, citizens will make donations and pray for the repose of the dead.

On October 6, 1948, the earthquake killed over 170 thousand people and almost completely destroyed Ashgabat.

The memorial complex includes monuments to the victims of the earthquake, as well as to the heroes who fell in the fight against fascism. There is also a museum, the exposition of which tells about the course of the Great Patriotic War. Remembering the tragic past of its people, Turkmenistan at the international level advocates the promotion of a peace-loving policy.
