A newborn porcupine in Turkmenistan was named Novruz

On the day of celebration of the National Spring Festival - International Novruz Day, a female porcupine brought a calf, which was named Novruz, to the "Novruz yaylasy" place in Ak Bugday district of Akhal province. This is reported by the Internet edition Turkmenportal.

A pair of porcupines, which became the parents of the baby, were demonstrated at the holiday as rare animals in danger of extinction. According to national beliefs, the birth of a baby of animals listed in the Red Book will bring happiness and prosperity this year with the arrival of the Novruz holiday.

In addition to porcupines, Turkmenistan is home to many rare animals that are included in the Red Book. There are nine natural protected reserves on the territory of the country, where leopards, Turkmen mountain sheep, honeyeater, striped hyena and other animals are kept.
