Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a meeting with the ambassadors of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Russia to discuss the upcoming meeting at the level of foreign ministers of the Caspian Five countries. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for further expansion and deepening of cooperation between the countries of the region. The meeting of foreign ministers of the Caspian littoral states will be held at the initiative of the Russian Federation.
During the conference "The Caspian Sea - the Sea of Peace and Friendship", Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov noted the need for practical implementation of the provisions of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, as well as the importance of identifying a platform for the implementation of environmental security measures in the Caspian Sea.
