Ashgabat, July 25 - Arzuw.news. The OSCE Centre in Ashgabat has handed over a specially developed Standard on Oil and Gas Methane to the state concern Turkmengaz and other partner organizations in the country. Arzuw.news reports with reference to the press service of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat.
The document was created by international experts to form unified methodologies for accounting, quantification and management of methane emission reduction processes in the oil and gas industry. The main objective of the standard is to assist Turkmenistan in fulfilling its commitments under the Global Methane Commitment in accordance with international environmental requirements.
Head of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat John MacGregor expressed hope for practical application of the presented standard by the concerns "Turkmengaz" and "Turkmenneft", as well as other specialized organizations of the republic.
The development of the document was preceded by two consultation meetings with the participation of representatives of key agencies of the country. The first one was held on March 26 this year to discuss the main sections of the standard and receive comments from stakeholders.
The second consultation was held on May 15 to review the initial draft document. During the meeting, comments from national partners were taken into account and appropriate adjustments were made to the final version of the standard.
The consultation process was attended by specialists from the concerns "Turkmengaz", "Turkmenneft", "Turkmengeologiya" and the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan.
