November 26 is the date proclaimed as World Sustainable Transport Day. It was on this day that the first Global Forum on Sustainable Transport was held in Ashgabat in 2016. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the resolution was adopted on May 16, 2023 by the UNGA on the initiative of Turkmenistan and co-sponsored by 67 countries.
According to Aksoltan Ataeva, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations, sustainable transport occupies an important place in the ongoing program to achieve sustainable development until 2030.
The main principles of the World Day for Sustainable Transport are mobility, low atmospheric emissions, use of alternative petroleum products and energy efficient vehicles, strengthening global and regional connectivity.
