Turkmenistan's Parliament will again become unicameral

The Khalk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan will cease its activities. This was reported today by the news program "Vatan" of Turkmen television after a joint session of both chambers of parliament.

Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov came up with this initiative at the meeting.

Thus, the representative body exercising legislative power will now consist of one chamber, the Majlis, and the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan will be the supreme representative body of the people's power.

Speakers at the meeting supported the suspension of the Khalk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan and the proposal to transform the parliament into a unicameral structure.
