Representatives of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Mari El discussed cooperation

Atadurdy Bayramov, Consul General of Turkmenistan in Kazan, Russian Federation, met with Alexander Evstifeev, Head of the Mari El Republic of the Russian Federation, to discuss topical issues of partnership in the trade and economic sphere.

The participants of the talks stressed that, since 2018, the volume of trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Mari El has been increasing annually. Thus, last year it was 189 million rubles in monetary terms. The republic supplies its Turkmen partners mainly with timber and products of wood processing enterprises, while Turkmenistan imports confectionery products, finished products based on cereals and grains. It is noted that trade interaction between the regions is initiated mainly by individual republican economic entities.

According to the Turkmen Consul General, Turkmenistan attaches great importance to improving partnerships with Russian regions, including Mari El. The diplomat expressed willingness to familiarize the partners not only with trade and economic, but also with the cultural and humanitarian capabilities of Turkmenistan and explore the potential of expanding the export-import volume between the Republic of Mari El and Turkmenistan. Atadurdy Bayramov noted that the first stage would be online negotiations between representatives of business structures of both sides. The Consul General confirmed the readiness to organize reciprocal visits to get better acquainted with the potential of the partner countries.

It is noted that the parties intend to develop cooperation in the field of education. Mari El's higher educational institutions - representatives of the Mari State University and the Volga State Technological University annually travel to Turkmenistan to carry out vocational guidance and presentation activities. At the moment, 509 Turkmen students receive knowledge in higher educational institutions of the Republic.

The Consul General thanked the head of Mari El for his support of students from Turkmenistan, which was especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic.
